I don't know, but it sounds pretty scary to me. They'd have to forcibly make me take any tests they 'required'.

Even if it, say, became an integral part of every job application?

Or part of yearly employee evaluations?

I didn't get the impression from the article that the scary government wanted to control our lives, but that greedy pharmaceutical companies wanted to find new markets. Evil, yes, but not quite in the way I think you're interpreting it. There was also a quote in there about Bush wanting to integrate the mentally ill into society, 'cause that worked so well in the 80s.

To be honest, I think many people with treatable mental illnesses and mood disorders fall through the cracks, and a program of education and identification would benefit many. Unfortunately, I don't think this is the program. The focus seems to be pushing certain new, expensive drugs rather than tailoring a therapy, which may or may not include medication, to the needs of the individual.

I mentioned the article to my husband, and he said it (or another covering the same issue) had been making the rounds a few months ago. He thought it was just one of many ideas Bush was throwing out there in order to gauge public response.

Christmas Fairs

I'd love to go to a fair. I get such a kick out of them. I'm at my in-laws currently (hence delay in reply - not checking my email much), but will be back on Monday, at which point maybe we can work something out.
