I'm afraid that despite my own cynicism... I find it quite ironical...that religious thinking is going to (at least try to) bite us in the @ss like this. And in this country, of all places.

The Irony is just...well...yeah.
If I understand correctly, there's a strain of post-millenialism that expected Christians to remove somewhat from the rest of the 'sinful' world, to form their own enclaves where they would live themselves by Moasiac law - to in effect, lead/convert by example - not by 'conquering'.
I blame our current predicament on cynical facists who discovered that the general Reconstruction belief, once twisted into Dominionism, was the perfect vehicle for them.
If the current movement gradually enough, they (theoretically) might not have to resort to military means...on the other hand...
