Bit like paying good money to enter a large, open-air shopping mall/food court...or certainly, paying for the privilege of indulging further in that quintessantly 1st world pastime...consumption.

Well, all right...there was a bit more there than just that, and the carnival rides on the midway (which was not our focus and wasn't explored at all) - namely, the remnants of the traditional american harvest season agricultural fair.

But in between, so very many chances to indulge, being swarmed by a noisy, crowded cacophany of humanity. (Geeze, to listen to me here, you'd think I hated it and had a horrible time - but I actually had a fine time - am quite glad I went.) Hadn't been out there since college, and wanted to check it out again. Honestly had a quite pleasant drive out and back and the afternoon wandering about with samantha2074. Really.

Just telling it like it is, Baby. It's not for claustrophobes or HSPs, let's just put it that way. Or not for long, anyway. But we both knew our limits, and wisely got out once we got tired, but weren't yet totally exhausted. 'Bout 4 hour's worth.

Plus, I probably still had a buzz on from the cold medicine I'd taken this morning.

Non-consumption-wise, we saw some 4H seam-sters from NH modeling their creations (wasn't just girls - one dude was showing off his western shirt), ogled the prize-winning creations from a big craft competition back in August (amateur but very high-level stuff), saw a few of the horse riding competitions going on in one arena, and moseyed through the farm barn (with chick hatchery and assorted other farm beasts, including Clydsdales, llamas, lop-eared goats, chickens, etc.).

In future, I'd like to either go to a more local fall fair (where hopefully the balance is skewed a bit more towards the celebration of agriculturalism than the fact that it's a commercial opportunity), or else return to the Big E sometime and concentrate only on the farm exhibits (we know we didn't make it to all of them in the time we had).

Still, I'm glad I got to have me corn dog (on a stick, natch!) with fries and a soda.

GOOD EATIN'!!
