"cottage industry
An industry where the creation of products and services is home-based, rather than factory-based. While products and services created by cottage industry are often unique and distinctive given the fact that they are usually not mass-produced, producers in this sector often face numerous disadvantages when trying to compete with much larger factory-based companies."

Yes, but what if your selling point is that the items produced are one-of-a-kind?

What if the amount of income you expect to generate thus is merely a supplement to other more consistent income?

What if a whole lot of people made hand-made items, even if they sold just a few at any given time?

How many would it take to add up to an Influence...?

I think there's a growing DIY 'movement' already. That's pretty much what it's based on. A few people make it into a full-time primary-income thing, but most of them are students or wage slaves making a few one-of-a-kinds now and then.
