Have signed up to be a 'mystery shopper'. Intend to do so for several such companies. Exactly when a 'shop' will become available in my area at a location easily reachable at a time when I can do it (evening or weekend) remains to be seen.

But I'm in the System. Heh.

As you should well know, there are no stupid questions, monsieur.

'Mystery shoppers' are 'independent contractors' who register with and receive basic training on the proper business protocol (usually via online tutorials with brief quizzes at the end) from companies who send such independant contractors out to carry out specific shopping scenarios at retail establishments (who are of course the company's clients). In other words, this lets the clients know if their employees are fulfilling certain non-negotiable key behaviors as parts of their job. Anomynity (not being ID'd as a mystery shopper), accuracy, on-time completion of 'shops' and on-time submission of complete reports are what is necesary to succeed in this area.

Or so the training thingie I took the other day assured me.

Generally, the better one's record (completing assignments properly and on time) the more one has chances to get assigned to these 'shops'. On the other hand, there's no specific guarantee of getting regular assignments. That is, how much one might end up doing this sort of thing also depends on how many clients in one's own geographic area need retail establishments checked out, as well as that area's pool of existing mystery shoppers and the inevitable 'competition' they would represent. I for one have no idea how many people tend to do this sort of thing as an income supplement.

But there you have it.

Below is the site I started reading about these at:

& below is one typical 'marketing' company which uses mystery shoppers and operates in some US states (though not mine, sadly) as well as Canada:
