"Servanthood may not be today's normal model for business success, but that hasn't stopped the Heavins [Founders/owners of the extremely successful Curves women's fitness centers]. In 2003, the couple gave away $10 million—10 percent of their company's gross revenues and 80 percent of Gary's net income—to charities. Heavin matches the first $1,000 that each franchise raises for community causes such as walkathons to benefit pro-life pregnancy-care centers. Such controversial stances have led to criticism, but Heavin is unfazed. "There's nothing healthy about abortion," he says. "I'm not afraid to tell the truth."

Beckie Hunter (who gave me the head's up on this) was right. They're pulling a Domino's Pizza on us. You Bastards, you.

Going to Curves has been the most consistent exercise program I've ever had, the easiest to stick to - despite the lack of over-all weight loss, I still made progress - and I'll need exercise more than ever now that I'm essentially officially diagnosed as depressed.

And you fuckers had to go and set up this Ethical Dilemna for me.

They give a lot of money to pro-life groups. My family's been boycotting them for over a decade now.

yep. I found that out when I was at university in 88. I've not touched Domino's since.

At one point, the CEO (IIRC) donated some Domino's profits to at least one anti-choice group (might have been Operation Rescue).

I was just one of many who refused to patronize them during that period.

However, that executive since then sold the company or some such, making Domino's Pizza, for me, eatable again.

Hmmm, that's an ethical dilemma for me as well. I'll have to talk with mom about it. I think maybe once, my need for exercise may outrank my ethics... I might not think that way later...

Heh - double posting myself - sorry! But I just thought of something. They match the first $1000 raised by the Curves stores' charity doos. No ethical dilemma if you don't do any of the charity doos. :-) (Now I don't feel guilty about not bringing any food in for the food for friends thing Curves did.)
