Drove a Honda Element zippy-car to visit my folks. Nice Polish-style Easter dinner with them and my sibs. Inevitable (this time fairly low-key) brief cajoling from the 'rents to loose weight. Didn't get bent out of shape about it per se, mostly due to having already had my big giant vent over that here - *pointed and slightly annoyed glance at a certain sib who found this LJ* - instead suggested that they calm down about the reminders as it'd probably all work out in the end.
Had been about a year since I'd last driven, so I find myself a little sore now in a few muscle groups from the tension. Wasn't me I was worried about as I zipped along; was the other people on the road. Also as I'd predicted and worried a bit over ahead of time, I had to drive around semi-lost on the one-way streets in the neighborhood for a while before I figured how to get back to the lot where the Element is parked. But I got there in the end. Despite things like going down a dead-end street and having to turn around in someone's driveway, worrying about how much space I was taking up or that I might bump into something, slowing down because I was saying to self, 'Where the f*ck am I exactly?' and getting honked at by some annoyed driver behind me. Parking somewhat askew back in the car's spot, then realizing, 'Oh, I can move around a bit and re-park without ramming into the other cars in the lot.' That sort of thing.
But God Forbid I should have to parallel park anytime soon. (Not a big fan of the specific skills required in city driving.)
I've had the membership for several years, but've hedged alot on using it - but will possibly do so more often now. Certainly for trips out of town. The daily rate such as I had today is no more than a comparable car rental - and we aren't charged for gas, maintenance, insurance or parking (well not over and above the yearly members' fee and a $9-12/hr cost for time used).
