Was reminded yesterday how most of our perceptions are stored 'memories' retrieved via pattern-recognition.
Or some such.
Walking through the 'hood, I saw this oblong object with something flapping at its side.
And for a split second.....I had no idea WTF it was. A fraction of a second of pure unadulterated cognitive confusion, mmm-mmmm.
The next, even smaller fraction of a second, I 'saw' a pigeon, flapping there on the ground.
And then, as I drew closer, it resolved into a Poland Springs⢠bottle, with a strip of lable torn off and flapping in the breeze.
