Worried about my rent check clearing, I set off this morning with three 20s, a ten, a five, and two ones. I was going to deposit the 3 20s. I walked the two miles or so to the nearest credit union branch, seeing how nice it is out today. Along the way, stopped at a pizza parlor to get a slice, as was hungry. Handed over what I thought were the two ones, and got back back a few coins in change.
The next place I opened my wallet was the bank - and I had only two 20s, the ten and the five....and only 1 one. The sympathetic bank clerk recommended I go back and explain I'd given them a one and a 20, even ask them to count the drawer if they didn't recall. Went back immediately, explained...and the pizza guy played Ignorant - claimed I'd not given him a one and a 20, and refused to count the drawer. When I explained that it had been part of my rent $...he replied, several times, 'Not my problem'.
Thing is, I KNOW what I had in my wallet - I'd set aside the 3 20s, in a little box...then transferred it directly to my wallet last night, so it'd be ready to go, first thing this morning. I counted it before putting it in the wallet, didn't buy anything anywhere until the pizza parlor.
I'm done always doubting myself and giving every one else the benefit of the doubt. When I know full well what happened here. That fucker cheated me.
And he's not getting away scot-free.
I think I'll be making a little call to the Better Business Bureau today.
That's not counting... the other things one can do.
