My father gave me a tour of this new structure built in the backyard of my childhood home. At first as we went inside I thought it was a barn - a pony we used to have (dead some years now) came stepping through, presumably going to a new stall. But it turned out the structure was mostly a large building/house - built by my parents (dad, mostly, as he has the specific construction skills; mom helps - they have put up sheds and small barns in the past). Given that it was 'homemade' by people who despite having experience had no formal training in construction, I was surprised and impressed by the way rooms were set up and decorated in (reproduction) colonial style (which also was the general decor of the main house, growing up). Was very nice, for an amateur job. The tour led upstairs, my father pulling open a curtain or shutter in what may have been my space. I looked around and noticed several wooden display shelves (free-standing, no back) containing knick-knacks and figurines, some similar to things I had around during my childhood. Seemed to me my parents had held onto them, then moved them all here, to this new space...
A bit later, I found myself outside with one of my brothers, and my father showed us a different way inside - we rode this little almost rollar coaster up the building's side to right near the top level, where a magnetic lock could be activated with a card, and you had like one minute to go through the opened door.
My brother and I went inside; my dad either wasn't going back in that way or hadn't come inside yet. My brother threw himself down on a twin bed in an area that reminded me of the area in the main house that had been their bedroom when they were kids (as if the new building were aso reachable from the new, separated one). I noted this with slight disapproval or bemusement, wondering why he was there instead of in the new space...
