DOCTOR WHO: The INTERNET ADVENTURES - #27
THE APAN WAY - Chapter 4 - The Swirl of Stardust
By: Kiri
Lieutenant Sahjhan eyed the newcomer who seemed so familiar with Commander
Jolyon. This "Doctor" was a tall man, but spare. He possessed a gently
casual arrogance in his stance, which was augmented by his blue eyes and
slightly receding hairline. Sahjhan strolled over to his console to try and
verify this intruder, while listening carefully to the plans being laid.
Before he could pull up the profile databank an alert came across the
internal band. Reading it Sahjhan signaled to the replacement
communications officer and called out to the Port Commander.
"Commander Jolyon. I think you should hear this broadcast, it was
transmitted 45 seconds ago. " With that he signaled the playback for the
Commander.
"This is Anyia Golart of VERT Station 2 coming to you from Space Port No. 8
on the third Moon of Verdant Prime. Moon #3 is currently under attack by a
fleet of Warstingers from the Apan Hive. The lead warstinger launched a
missile about 14 minutes ago VST [Verdant Standard Time], but it was
destroyed before it reached this spaceport. At the moment the shields seem
to be holding, although for how long is uncertain. Residents and Travelers
are confused and frightened. No one seems clear as to why these attacks are
taking place, especially upon a diplomatically neutral moon. We will be
speaking with those in charge shortly, and we will bring you updated
information as we are able to obtain it. Meanwhile Diplomatic Attaché to
the Outer Realms, Diena Kolbrit, would like to address the general
public..... "

Greh was lead to a holding room on level three. As he was already known for his pan-handling and confidence tricks on unwary travelers, the guards locked him in and left a cadet to guard the hallway. Greh sat down and stared at the mesh filled square of glass in the door. He was thinking furiously of how he could talk his way out of this mess, when he heard the cadet snap the bolt away from the door and let enter a man. The man, who exuded authority, sat without crinkling his navy blue suit. Straightening his lavender cufflets his black eyes bored into Greh.
"Who are you?" stuttered Greh.
"That isn't important; however *what* I can do for you in exchange for your
help is considerable."

Matron checked the stasis tube carefully. Inside lay the body of a handsome
young man with shoulder length dark hair. Brushing her own hair away from
her face she gazed worriedly at the readouts, which were starting to
fluctuate. She wished she knew more about how to work the unit, but
technology wasn't easily come by on Dahlia 7. Novice Vivi had promised to
be back well before there would be any trouble with the unit. Matron prayed
it would be so.

Internal Memo
From: Director of Research
To: CEO(s) of Research, Finance and Corporate Planning Divisions
Our agent to the Apan outer rim colonies has vanished with the information
he gathered. Project VE #273 must be completed before Queen Zenza awakens
from her hibernation and our plan takes effect. Our counterparts on Verdant
are ready to implement Phase 3.
--
The Director of Research leaned back after transmitting the memo. Looking
across the black marble desk he addressed the being standing in the shadows.
"You say you have a lead on his possible host?"
"Yezzzzz. "
"Good. We are pursuing leads on where he may have stashed his physical
form. Without a member of his own clan, or even in a pinch another
Cedoalian, the host will not last long. If we are very lucky, they may not
reach those who could foil our plans."
The being nodded.
"You may go now." stated the Director of Research.
With an irritated buzzing noise the being departed.
After the being left the Director pressed a button that brought up the light
and the heat. The office was now comfortable and even edging upon cheery.
His secretary entered, announcing his next appointment.
With a pause the young man stopped and asked why the Director always instituted the winter protocol when he met with that representative.
The Director replied, "Necessary. Without it we'd all be in danger of being killed. I want you to review the files on the Ropalidiini. We must be prepared in case we get stung over this deal."

Fleets of sleek black ships moved with deadly silence through the swirling
stardust of their former home galaxy. They began to drop away in formation,
becoming poised upon their targets.
An ancient enemy of the Apan Hive had returned. Soon the entire galaxy would know their wrath.
