I'm no longer a Utopianist (if I ever really was). By that, I mean that I don't expect this place - ie, its people - to be perfectable.

However, I still believe it's vitally important to try. Even against the impossibility of human nature and the weight of history and all the old grudges and arrogances.

Paradox? A Fool's Errand, given that I don't consider it possible to secure an end to warring and human-human (and any other kind) exploitation?

Not really.

Think about it.

D'oh, Cameron beat me to it. What he said, yeah. And what you said too.

Sorry, I think my bottle of Coherent is empty.

Uh, let's try that again. I agree. I don't think there's a perfect future somewhere over the horizon, where everyone lives in harmony and all problems are solved. People are very influential on each other-- a few rotten apples can spoil the whole Utopia, but at the same time a few nice people can also reach far with their actions.

I can either be apathetic and not care, or I can try to make my little corner of the world better. You do good things for the people who are right here and who exist right now, not because you think it'll make for a Utopian future three hundred years down the road.

I think this is why I dropped Star Trek like a hot potato at the same time as I picked up Doctor Who.
