Bex, I have booked a week's stay for you at the Political Conspiracy Fixations Anonymous detox center in Toronto. [livejournal.com profile] indefatigable42 and [livejournal.com profile] nexstarman have agreed to be your sponsor and, if you're very good and take all the medications the lovely doctors give you, they'll take you to Ikea before your flight back.

Go pack now. Your plane leaves at 11:00 AM.

;)

We have a government that carries out (and outsources) torture, is happy to make even American citizens "disappear", and has admitted to evesdropping without oversight on every single one of us who's ever sent an email or had an IM conversation with someone overseas. Where can you possibly go from there that looks like a wacky conspiracy theory?

My humorously-intended response was due to the tone of the post she pointed to. It was the kind of way-overboard, grasping exaggeration that makes even concerned liberals people like me want to barf.

I don't doubt that there are some people who would like to see things the way the writer describes, and I do believe -- on some level -- that Dominionism is something to keep in mind when watching the Right, but the poster presented it in the outlandish, sensationalistic manner that conservatives love to point at as examples of how desperate we liberals are to make them look bad.

My comment was not intended to diminish the importance of [livejournal.com profile] kalibex's belief in being watchful and holding the gov't accountable for its actions. All the things you mention in your comment are serious issues that concern me -- and should concern everyone -- greatly. The posting that she pointed to was just too ... radical for me. It might galvanize some into action, but I feel it's more likely to cause liberal people to step back, as well as give fodder to the conservative pundits and talk show hosts who love to trot these things out and embarass us liberals with.
