Ooooh. My coffee maker came with a wire mesh filter, but every grind of coffee I tried ended up tasting like the proverbial hot water with a brown crayon dipped in it. Very weak and thin, and with coffee bean dust. I ended up switching to paper filters.
I suppose I could try a washable cloth filter... hmm...

Funny you should mention that...for alas, exactly such was my experience this morning.
I guess I can save it as a backup for those occasional mornings I find myself paper filter-less and want my cuppa joe before I run out to replenish my supply.
Best coffeepot I had was a French press style, in Ireland. Easy, fast, good coffee. But I had to be careful with the really fine-ground stuff sneaking up and getting into the drinking section. I may get one again, once I get settled somewhere.
