Was at the place I grew up; our dog (maybe the one we grew up with, maybe the current one living there now; not sure) was outside gamboling around, and started to race into the shed/barn (which more recently was converted into a garage) because there were 'meerkats' in there on the low foundation ledge (of which a little protrudes inside) doing their 'stand up and look around' thang.  Dog may have been startled or enraptured, not knowing whom to chase first.  One meerkat seemed to rush out and take off - I don't recall precisely if the dog took the bait and followed, but as I woke from this dream sequence, got the thought that while many community animals have a 'watch animal' to keep an eye out for predators, some may also have a 'distractor' version of this - the one who flees or fights, in order to distract an approaching predator in order to give its fellows a chance to flee and survive - to escape the predator's regard.
