I'm perfectly willing to take student feedback on board and consider their POV and have in the past altered my teaching / assignments accordingly...but am I the only one who's been teaching (whether undergrads or graduates) who is taken aback at the Entitlement out there these days?
Am I wrong for giving 1st year graduate Health Science students crystal clear assignment directions/ accompanying grading rubric, then actually taking points off when they don't follow the directions exactly, when they are careless in that way? Even though they apparently feel Insulted and b*tch and moan afterwards (especially in the anonymous post semester survey)?
Am I?
I mean it's not as if they don't have to Follow Directions as they learn delicate procedures that impact on their future patients' health...
Used to be, students would trust the teachers enough to give them what they needed, even if it mean jumping through what seemed to be meaningless hoops...now seems it's about getting the best grade as easily as possible.
I'm not the only one seeing that...right?
