Cheered myself up after a cranky day at work with Brazilian barbecue take-out and the affable goofiness of TNT's The Librarian: Quest for the Spear.
Help me write a fun little round-robin, as I used to do with lots of folks in the Good Olde Days.

I'm rusty, though - been a while. Can I count on at least 4 or five of you peeps on my friend's list to join in? If only a few, we can do multiple rounds, of course. Not a lot of pressure on this one - more of a 'get back into practice' bit of fun.

10th Doctor, no Companion. Pre-2008 Christmas Special (but just by a bit - definitely post Journey's End). The whole point is for it to be a companionless Doctor adventure (not counting whoever may join with him for the story's duration, natch). Perhaps he's about to have some experience that he takes with him into The Next Doctor? We shall see.

Doctor Who: The LJ-Adventures #1 -- Return to Kashmir

Prologue

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed
--Led Zeppelin, Kashmir

A twilight ombre sky, rapidly shading across its expanse from violet to deep blue, and finally, to black, arched over a landscape of sand. Straggly desert trees pierced the monotony here and there, as well as occasional outcroppings of jumbled boulders, tossed there by giants long ago.

Someone passing by overhead would have seen a fitful spark of light amidst one of those random rock piles. Approaching closer, he would have soon realized that it was a campfire's light, dancing there, in the dark.

And had he approached yet a little nearer, he'd have seen a circle of eight figures sat gathered around the flames, hunched gratefully towards the heat as it pushed away the desert's night chill.

Seven of them were native to this place - hard of shell, many-legged, iridescent of eye... and this evening, devoid of luck.

The remaining figure was a wild-haired humanoid in a pin-striped suit and converse sneakers. "I call," he said abruptly. There was a momentary pause as everyone lay out their cards.

"I win!" the suited man exclaimed. He glanced, caught in a little momentary sad nostalgia, at his suit of three queens, as the others shifted, murmured, chuckled, and in a couple of cases, grumbled mildly. Then he looked up and around at his companions again, grinning, his eyes bright with satisfaction and curiosity.

"Right!" he said. "Pay up - the Antimony Prophecy, if you please."

The circle of Elders conferred briefly, their conversation a subtle sussurration passing between them. Then, the eldest of them all turned to him, and smiled (which for them meant creating a low whistling sound through their mouthpieces).

"Very well, Doctor. Luck is with you, and so, the Prophecy will now be yours."
