The Patriot's Day Battle of Lexington re-creation, that is. If you consider standing near the back of the throngs ringing the roped-off common, straining desperately to see over the heads of the people in front of us (and kids on shoulders, and townies on ladders) 'seeing'. At 5:30 in the morning. With the actual receation not starting until closer to 6, and it being all over (the musket reports, the shouting, a glimpse of red-coats chasing militamen off the common as a few bodies fell) in about a quarter-hour. Heh. After which, historically, the Regulars continued on to Concord in search of waepons caches, then turned back to Boston, whereapon the local countryside's militamen who had arrived in the area and quickly learned from their brethren's mistakes in Lexington, sensibly went all guerilla sniper on their @sses, thus getting revenge for the days's earlier losses.
Anyway, we can say we've been there, done that, my parents and I. They stayed over my place, we got up at 3:30, were on the road by 4:20, and got there in time. Zipped right up route 2/2A to Lexington, saw it, bugged right on back to J.P. after the event, and after fresh coffee & homemade waffles, they're now on their way home in order to avoid any Marathon day craziness.
I'm taking the rest of the day off from work, to 'recover'. Now, it's time to Do Taxes (in between a nap or two...)
