Nice wading-trip to the beach - got my shore-ecosystem-fix for the season.
Saw mussels, barnacles, snails, hermit crabs, gulls, bladder-wrack. Someone walked by with a tin lid on which they were examining sand, water and young sea dollars. I prodded gently at a hermit crab who'd over-grown his shell, and he began pulling himself out...then lay, as if exhausted. Worried that I'd Stressed him to death, I introduced him to the entrance of a much larger shell, left him and it lying in a rock cleft, below the high-tide line. Hopefully none of the gulls noticed him and got him before he pulled himself together to crawl inside and set up house (or else go elswhere).
