I just got to play Junior Reference Librarian here at work! Someone wandered over to the circ desk and forlornly started asking the student assistant about where she might find stuff related to a paper she was working on (the reference librarian had gone home at 10 pm)....

Anddddddddd...I just couldn't resist. I offered in a hush-hush under the table sort of way to try my database searching skills (such as they are in this rudimentary state, not even finished with an intro to Reference class yet) in the hopes of finding some suitable papers.

So I did an impromptu reference interview - ie, found out what she was looking for and why: scholarly type articles about a particular movie for a paper.

And at first I wasn't finding anything really scholarly related to her topic (relationships in the movie) while trying ERIC, partly because Tufts gets theirs from a different vendor than Simmons, different-looking interface, which threw me for a loop. Then I tried Expanded Academic ASAP and started getting results. *whew* Had her sit nearby and showed her the search strategy I was using. She also suggested some search keywords, and I thought to look for the keywords just in title & abstract, and came up with 17 that she started getting excited about looking into. I printed off a copy of that listing, and quickly showed her what to do to find that database and reproduce the search, whereapon she could look at or print off articles in the comfort of her own home.

Bottom Line: She left happier than when she arrived.
