Made sure the accounts for the two store plates I never use were cancelled...and had those Rat Bastards at MBNA cancell my acc't. As I said some weeks ago...they've gotten the last penney of profit from me they ever will. I was transferred to a fast talker whose job it was to make me change my mind about cancelling it.
Didn't work. Despite about two seconds of doubt (he was after all a pro at what he did), if I needed any more proof of why they deserved to be left in the dust...that certainly was it. They only wanted to keep me because of the late fees and obscene interest they'd gotten out of me in the past - they knew there's a certain statistical chance that if I held onto their card...I'd eventually rack up another balance I'd be unable to pay guickly thus generating more of that disgusting profit for them.
So I stuck to my intent and they agreed to cancel it. Despite being told it was a 'mistake'. Assholes - my only mistake was keeping it after the first time they raised the interest offensively just for having a late payment. Though the inertia of depression and complications about transferring away the balance to a more sane card/account was complicated by my months of dealing with the credit fraud some asshole saddled me with (thankfully cleared from my record now). It was a tough time...and those assholes at MBNA, even though not knowing of my specific situation and even though I never asked them for mercy (maybe that was again the depression warping my thinking, but I had been late a couple of times, so I figured...what was the point?)...took FULL advantage of my situation with their @#$%ing fee schedule. So fuck them. It's the nature of the business - it's the politics of credit card company GREED.
Buh-BYE, MBNA. Hasn't been a pleasure.
